Give your kids the best start to their oral health with Hawthorn Road Family Dental. Our kind and compassionate children’s dentists are experienced professionals who will ensure that your little ones receive the highest standard of care. For peace of mind, our dentists are also available in case of a dental emergency.
At Hawthorn Road Family Dental, we believe that great oral health begins the moment your kids are born. You can start wiping your child’s gums with a damp cloth from infancy to protect their emerging teeth from bacteria.
From the age of three, children will also benefit from monthly check-ups at our Caulfield dentist. This should be coupled with diligent home care that teaches children the fundamentals of brushing, flossing and oral health.
By introducing children to these concepts early on, parents and dentists can give them the best start to their life of oral care..
We recommend fixed monthly check-ups for kids from the age of three onwards. Not only will this give us a chance to check their gum health, but it will also ensure they are cavity-free. Beyond this, your child’s teeth and facial structure will develop rapidly in their early childhood years. With regular appointments, our dentists can identify irregularities and prevent more complex treatments down the line.
General check-ups are also a great way to get to know the dentist. Dental phobia often begins in childhood, so introducing your children to the idea of the dentist early on can work to prevent their fears. Hawthorn Road Family Dental provides a calm and comforting environment for all patients, especially younger children.
Cavities are often more prevalent in children, especially when they have poor diets or bad brushing habits. If your child is complaining of soreness when they brush or they are sensitive to hot or cold foods, they may have cavities.
Our dentists can provide fillings for your child. We remove the decay from their teeth under general anaesthetic and fill the empty cavity, preventing further infection. Fillings are a safe and fast dental procedure and we can provide advice on caring for your child after general anaesthetic. You can also learn more about fillings here.
A large part of children’s dentistry is educating them about healthy diets and oral health. We encourage children and their parents to follow a healthy diet that is low in sugar to maintain strong and healthy teeth.
Our professional children's dentist will also educate parents on oral hygiene, cavity prevention, care routines, and treatments such as check-ups, cleaning and fissure sealing. We recommend that children’s teeth are fissure sealed to prevent against decay. This involves coating your children’s teeth to protect them from bacteria.
